I take my first CPA exam this week. Any last minute things I should do before my exam/anything I should bring the day of?

Make sure you bring your notice to schedule and ID. Unless I'm mistaken, you still need those in order to take your test

like

Make sure you bring your ID and NTS. Know where the testing center is. Arrive a little early. Hope this helps. Good luck!!!!!

Wear a long sleeved shirt if you get cold easily.... i was freezing 😫

like

Two forms of ID just in case! And if your exam is in the afternoon, if you show up an hour early, they might let you sit right away

like

A flask.

like

24 hours before just relax... the worst thing you can do is sike yourself out

like

I brought a snack to eat during my break! Just a granola bar but it definitely helped

like

Bring a snack. Take a quick break and eat it, even if you don’t feel hungry - your brain needs fuel. Get a good nights sleep and don’t pound coffee/energy drinks to excess because there’s nothing worse than being trapped in a testing booth overly amped up and jittery due to caffeine and extra nerves.

like

you can bring it but you have to leave it in your locker. you can’t have anything with you while you test

like

Cry a little bit before just to get it out of the way!
Good luck!

Wear layers! It was always too hot or too cold in those stupid rooms

like

Trust yourself and know that you’ve done everything you can! You likely won’t remember everything, so don’t let that stress you out. Be confident and do your best to relax, you got this! You have put in the work, there’s not much else you can do!

like

May be a really dumb question but am I allowed to bring a water bottle in?

like

Depends on the time of your test... but I always tried to start my day as I always normally do to keep my mind and body from stressing out. Wake up normally, drink some coffee, eat a good breakfast, etc. I didn’t try to schedule my test super early and be in a rush all morning and get frazzled. I even scheduled the tests at a location about an hour away even though I had another center down the street from my house. The drive allowed me to kind of zone out and relax myself going in. Really helped, I passed all just fine

like

Get there early- sometimes parking is a pain and you don’t want to worry about being late!

like

I always take the morning test (I have passed each time I took it in the morning and I'm superstitious). I also do not study the night before. Best advice I have been given. Also good night sleep, small breakfast, and I get there as soon as the testing site opens.

Would it be difficult to get a job in IA if most of my experience has been auditing private non-404 asset mgmt funds? I really enjoy process walkthroughs when I have them though. Also, does title matter that much in IA? I’m a manager now, but based on job descriptions it looks like I might have to go for a senior auditor role because audit manager roles generally call for 8+ years from what I’m seeing. Can title be negotiated?

Fellow enterprise tech sales fish, I’m interested to hear your perspective. I’ve been in a rut lately and seriously considering leaving sales. I think it’s primarily fueled by one thing:
After a 6 mo cycle I closed a large deal (4x the average deal size) prior to receiving delayed 2022 comp plans. The deal counts as a 2022 deal. On last years comp plan it would’ve paid out at 10%. This year it pays out at a measly 4%.

How do you/have you navigated your way through and out of these situations?

At what point are you too specialized to lateral to internal audit? I'm TC2 at Deloitte w. 2 YOE and MAcc. Working on CPA exam. Some of my team peers moved to Capital One as Senior Business Analyst and it seemed good to me too. Recently I was contact by Cap One. The recruiter asked me if I'm interested in- Analyst/ Associate/ Risk Manager roles at Commercial bank (related to real estate or credit). Those roles require 1-3 YOE, but not Master's or CPA. Does anyone know if above positions are as competitive as SBA?

Curious if anyone else is or has been in the same boat. I started as an assistant at an entertainment law firm prior to passing the bar. Upon passing, the partner told me they would hire an assistant for me since I now became an associate. That was 1.5 years ago and I am still in the limbo of juggling my own workload + doing assistant roles for my supervisors. I have also had no increase in pay, which is a huge deal for me. Is this normal in the entertainment world? Any suggestions?
