Does anyone notice there has been an increase of Asian Americans suddenly trying to benefit from initiatives fought for by Black Americans while claiming their struggle trumps that of Black Americans? I find it strange. At my firm, I am a senior exec who have seen Black colleagues fight for 7+ years for diversity initiatives and we have finally gotten some notice at my firm. Nobody wants to be a minority until it’s beneficial to be one. And I peep the game and the change in behavior
Is anyone else over agencies using the term 'Diversity' for white women and non Black people overall. As Black people we are still given excuses by whites and other races of why we are not promoted.
On a call with the CEO talking about diversity and they compare a person with tattoos experiencing prejudice in the office to Black people colleague experiences... Meanwhile last I checked, a tattoo was a choice and removable. Also depending on placement, you can’t see it.
Just in case you're wondering if racism still exists in advertising, I'm reading a thread in the main feed where a presumably White man is legitimately asking if it's "good for the industry" that HR's "first word is diversity instead of talent." Oh, to have the audacity and confidence of a White man!!
Less of a question, more of a request... stop asking your junior BIPOC strats to work on BLM briefs because they are the only voice of color on your team. In a time where we need support grappling with our very REAL realities and how it impacts how we show up in the agency, the LAST thing we need is an “opportunity” to express our “unique POV” on a diversity brief (that we won’t even get to speak to none the less). Imagine having to chanbel your trauma into a deck to sell in an idea to clients?

Surely we are an industry bright and inventive enough to better balance the diversity of our workforce through more creative and industrious ideas than to simply revert to a mantra of “Well, we’ll just never hire a straight older white male again.” Yes I’ve heard this exact statement, and my partner who works in HR/recruiting has heard it’s essence too. It needs to change, but it doesn’t have to be an all-or-nothing war.
