I want to leave my position as manager in b4 SALT. What are my exit opportunities? Everyone I know just goes to another firm, but I want something different with more work life balance. Any suggestions on jobs I would be qualified for?

You can try startup company. I recently exited public accounting to work for a startup manufacturing company. Worklife balance is excellent, less than 30 hrs a week, excellent benefits (insurance all paid for with equity, work from home and cell phone stipend, 401k safe harbor and HSA contributed by the firm, flex pto and at least 3 weeks of holidays). The work is more exciting for me because I am now doing more of strategy work than compliance/consulting.

If you're in income/franchise, consider sales/use tax.

Dust off your provision skills and look for a large company that wants a SALT person. It'll still be a lot of work, but a lot less dealing with other people's emergencies.

like

What industry are you specialized in? Start from there.

Look at SALT for a regional firm. I’m looking for an income/franchise manager and we promote WLB and working entirely remote. Message me if this sounds interesting.

Big4 salt is better than regional from my experience. You're going to be working on 20+ smaller clients at a time and that can be so stressful versus charging your daily time to just a just a handful of clients. You'll also need to chase people down for charge codes all the time.

Overall, you might work less hours but you'll have a high of stress.
