I was contacted by a Facebook recruiter for a Data Scientist interview, but I'm not ready to take a new job right now. Should I take the interview for the practice or would that look bad if I want to seriously apply next year?

Do it! I think it's important to still have interviews now and then to stay sharp, to know your value and to challenge yourself about what you want.

I was in the same boat! I took the interview! Learned the game and what they were looking for! But yes! Looking to do it next year all over again! Mine was for decision scientist!

Damn. I’ve only used so many exclamation marks, when I had received that email from facebook

Take the interview. Throw caution into the wind. You literally have nothing to lose.

100% take the interview. This could be an amazing opportunity for you and at the very least will be a significant learning experience.

If you get rejected, you will have to wait an entire year before your eligible to interview. Just FYI

Good to know! I won't be applying for another year anyway and it would probably be for a slightly different role

It won’t look bad. If anything, it gets you in the system as someone who’s interested, so they’re more likely to contact you as things open up. FB is hiring a lot. Everyone knows there’s lots of noise in interviews so a past fail is by no means disqualifying I would recommend prepping for it though. I’m not a DS but in my experience FB was very up front about what to expect in the process. You can also find a lot online about the general structure of it

I’ll also add that they’re super flexible. If you get an offer and say “I need 6 months” I would not be surprised if they’d work with you on that

A client based in Japan had sent us a list of some Japanese texts and their English translations at our request which we needed. SM: Copy all the Japanese texts and their translations from document that client sent into a new document and send it back to client (to whom it came from) and ask them if they are correct. Me: Why are we doing that? SM: Just to ensure that we have validation in an email that client sent these translations to us. Me: Facepalm 🤦🏻‍♂️

I just found out that the person I was with last year is with someone new. We were separated because of distance/covid. It just makes me sad because I feel that covid took away the opportunity for us to be together and further develop the connection that we had. It was unique and hard to find. So much has changed. I’ll get over it and if we aren’t going to be together then I am sure it’s for the best. Just feeling this heaviness today.
