Thoughts on Roland Berger’s Dubai office?
I'm serving notice period in TCS and my last day is in 2 weeks. I requested for pickup of laptop in the portal but I came to know that it will take time for pickup and I won't be available if they come late. So I decided to go to office and surrender the laptop as I'm in the location of office only. Is there a seperate request to be raised for surrender of laptop and how to cancel the existing request for pickup. Please guide.Tata Consultancy

My friend was caught up in layoffs four weeks ago. He immediately applied online but still cannot get a call into state unemployment office to see why his benefits are not paying out.
This project may not be anywhere close to your ideal work, but it is going to have a significantly positive impact on a lot of people that are in real need.
Yea that's true
I’m on one of these and I was also so frustrated. As I’ve gotten into the role, I’ve started to appreciate the hours (no overtime, you’re done after 8 hours and can shut your laptop and phone), you get to practice your soft skills (literally a boot camp for how to manage expectations and anger), you get to understand people (if you’re a consultant you probably grew up well to do and went to a top college and have limited understanding of those in lower socioeconomic situations). You’re still gaining valuable skills and perspective.
That's great to hear and I'm glad youre having a good experience. I hope I feel the same too in the future

The fucking truth is that work is probably the most impactful thing you will ever do. Literally helping process unemployment claims, small business loans, etc. may help save someone’s livelyhood. The EPR you implement or product strategy you developed but never was executed pales in comparison. I encourage you to step back and examine how much contribution you are doing at an individual level.
You hate it because you had no choice. But hey, lots of things in life will be out of your control. It’s what you make of it. Also, the little things add up. You doing call center work helps the firm but also you’re going to help people who need help the most right now.
Dunno if it makes you feel better, but I’m on the bench, and I reached out for these roles and haven’t gotten them :/ very confused and worried about my chargeability.
Yea that's true
By call center work you mean literally answering calls?
What firm is this?
Not replying about your stress. It’s totally a stressful position. But folks saying it’s insane that you’d be asked to do this or that it’s a staffing option is really what I’m referring and responding to.
I thought it was common knowledge that a lot of firms are staffing resources with state unemployment offices to handle the volume of calls from people being laid off.
Outside of how it impacts you, this is a way for Deloitte to reduce layoffs until the economy improves.
When the financial crisis hit in 2008, Deloitte had the contract to help close down and reopen insolvent banks, and hundreds of consultants did that—going into banks, taking control of their IT systems, and executing the procedures to turn over the bank to the new owner.
When Sarbanes-Oxley first came out in 2002, we were still in the midst of the dot bomb recession. Every company was suddenly scrambling to audit their financial processes, assess their SOX risks, and implement new systems and processes for SOX compliance. Accenture had left before Arthur Andersen collapsed, PwC had sold consulting to IBM, but Deloitte had aborted their plans to split consulting. They trained hundreds of consultants to do SOX audits / risk assessments because they didn’t have enough audit people to do them.
All of these moves helped Deloitte weather the storm and reduce the number of layoffs they had to do. Deloitte leverages their significant relationships and breadth of services to put people to work where the demand is.
ACN?
Nah my fam
I'm in this type of project and know we're working along side many other consulting firms. Here's what I don't get, why bring on consultants at crazy rates when you can get people for a fraction of the cost? Is it just because we already have laptops and working and can start immediately? That along with being able to quickly separate and not pay benefits are the only things I can think of.
Totally understandable that you’re stressed. It is frustrating and those feelings are valid. If you just want to vent (often very helpful!) ping with some friends at the firm. If you want some coaching on how to manage your stress / make the most of the project / discuss positives talk to your cc or feel free to dm me.
Thank you so much
Really curious what firm is doing this
It’s been stated several times that it’s Deloitte.
Other firms do things like this though. During the financial crisis recession, I saw BearingPoint consultants manning a client’s IT help desk. Yes—fielding 1st level help desk calls to fix MS Office or have software installed. The consultants wanted to shoot themselves, but they knew if they refused the engagement they would probably be laid off.
Sometimes you do what you have to do.
Didn’t have the time to go through all the posts but I’ll give your your answer to your entire project. Rpa...it will automate 80% of the work any call center does.
