I work in consulting - currently salary 105k. I hate it, though, and am expecting a layoff coming up ahead of the new fiscal year in July. My heart is in health care and I’m thinking of making a switch and taking my nursing prereqs. Does it make sense to get a low paying medical assistant job for $24/hour to have a bit of income while I go back to school or is it better to focus on doing well in classes? What should I consider when deciding the best route?

The reason I’m considering is while boutique is generally a good place for me as an associate (NY pay, reasonable WLB, good experience on many fronts) there’s basically zero shot at making partner.

Coming up on one full year at an ID firm. Feeling overwhelmed with my experience so far. I’ve received minimal training/feedback unless it was on something I messed up. It feels like the expectations don’t align with my level of experience. I have a case load of 45-55 with very little oversight or involvement from partners. I'm thinking of selling my car & cash out some of my 401k to buy a house. My thought is to put down 3.5% for a FHA loan then make a big payment towards the principal to reduce long-term interest.
