I work in house I was approached for an unposted in house role by two different headhunters. The first time I was approached for the role, the headhunter recommended that I work with a resume writer and it gave me the ick so I didn’t pursue it further. I recently got contacted for the same role by a different headhunter. I’d like to be considered for the job but I want to work with the right person. What should I be thinking about?

I thought if you’re working with headhunters your resume is guaranteed to be looked at? Otherwise what is the advantage than just applying cold?

like

Yeah agree with this!

Are they trying to get you to pay for the resume writer? That's a common scam.

like

Yes the first recruiter was and that’s what turned me off

Weird. The ones I worked with would edit the resume lol so screw that lazy first one

like

That’s what I thought too

Is this second recruiter retained by the company? Otherwise agree with LC1, you should just apply cold if not.

like

I haven’t seen a posted job on the company’s website

Should I ask if the second headhunter is contracted with the employer? I haven’t applied through anyone yet

like

If it's a legit company you can probably email HR at [company] . Com or people at company . Com and ask them to confirm.

like

Was your resume tailored to the specific job posting? You gotta get through the HR/AI screeners before your resume is ever seen by the hiring manager.

Additional Posts in In-House Counsel

For in-house counsel roles, does firm prestige matter? For example, would the fact that an applicant is from Sullivan & Cromwell vs, say, White & Case matter at all, or is it much more about experience/interview? Does it matter as much as law school credentials? Assuming a mid-level corporate associate seeking to go in-house.
