Not a bad career move per se, but moving to a smaller firm doesn't guarantee any of the things you just mentioned. In fact, smaller firms might even be bigger crapshoots than big firms since there's worse tech/processes.
My small firm (35 people approx) is the best. We have a great team and great processes. Somebody from Big4 came to us and is working here now.
Mostly everybody is remote but some people enjoy working at the office. Also it’s pretty chill here after tax season.
Not a bad move, but why not get your cpa and get better at excel while still at EY?
Exactly what I was thinking…. people go into public to get their CPA, not leave it. It will also be a real pain, trying to get the firm to sign off on your hours after leaving.
