We’re at $325 HHI and live in NYC.
It’s not the best financially (obviously), but it is the best for the lifestyle we want while we’re still in our early 30s.
There’s a reason some places are cheaper than others, but it all depends on what you want out of life.
God y’all have no imagination. The US has some of the most scenic and beautiful cities and you’re choosing the most basic. Also NY? Do y’all just like to be broke and oppressed lol
Small coastal towns in California or Maine or towns with cool character like Charleston or New Orleans in the garden district.
If I don't live in New York, then what's with all the money I'm making?
ATL is great, but TN is sooo close and no state income tax and much lower COL
Jackson Hole, WY
I would live in my favorite (relatively low tax) area that's near some friends/ family.

I would live in a low cost city near an airport as with that much money you can travel if you want to go somewhere else. A safe city with whatever you like to do nearby for day to day but having the ease to travel. I'm partial to the southern / eastern states of TX, TN, FL, NC.
I would buy a ranch in Montana and rarely emerge in civilization
Are you a small fish in a big pond (NYC/Chicago/LA/etc) or a big fish in a small pond person? You can live like a king in a mansion in rural US on 400k. Or you can just be well off in a major metro area but have access to a lot more culture. Or you can strike a balance in a mid sized city. Personally at this point in my life (50’s approaching retirement age) I would go somewhere less expensive with little or no state income tax and try to put away a lot of money for a few years. Then I would look to settle down somewhere near where my kids end up living.
In a farm in the middle of nowhere.
