This post needs WAY more visibility
Yeah. I learned long ago not to do anything personal on a work computer. No logging into personal email. Nada. I don’t use the WiFi at work keep it all as separate as I can. And of course you shouldn’t say things in email or on Teams you wouldn’t want the world to read
Just stop doing it. Use your phone
Everything on a company server you do at work on a company device is retrievable etc. You should know this by now as self evident but people continue to "forget" how technology and the internet work.
Yes, but there is a difference between retrievable easily accessible. It opens the door to retaliation for personal conflicts, gossip and so on. There are conversations that need to happen that, despite being completely professional, could cause easily problems in the wrong hands.
It’s hideous that most agencies aren’t going to be more upfront about this. I did my own research and saw Microsoft is using this feature as a differentiator in marketing Teams to employers. It certainly doesn’t do anything else very well. Someone in my agency confirmed for me that multiple people in my office were made Teams administrators to see what was said by those working on their accounts and they are able to use it freely at their own discretion.
It’s no different than company-provided Slack, sorry to break it to you guys.
Pretty sure slack recently changed their privacy terms and an employer can read your DMs and private channel convos. Nothing is safe
Yep. Also you can’t delete full conversations and you have to go in and delete messages one by one.
Any messages you delete remain archived and searchable by anyone the agency has made Teams administrators, even if the recipient won’t be able to see it anymore.
Who are the people dumb enough to shit talk their co workers on cloud based platforms? Anyone can access!
Slack is exactly the same. Use your work email to communicate on your company comp. Nothing else.
More people can have access to your messages on Teams than on Slack (only one on Slack). And we are required to use Teams in addition to email.
Another thing about MS Teams everyone should know is that all meetings or calls on Teams can be recorded and transcribed.
@ACD1 As a company administrator, I can tell you that is not true of Slack private channels and DMs.
uh-oh
OP, no point in diving deep into the details if one follows the simple but iron rule of never writing anything overtly offensive or confidential etc inappropriate that can be used against you, to discredit you or to ruin your reputation. Anyone can leak info out if malicious intent, no work "buddy" is to be underestimated. But no need to live with paranoia if you keep it light but proper / professional over any digital comms media.
Everyone should know that anything you say or do on a work computer is accessible. Doesn’t matter if it’s teams, lync, Skype for business, slack etc.
MS Teams is more accessible to management and middle management than any other program. All information is accessible by your network admin, and legally, nobody else.
Paid Slack offers the same feature to employers
To one person, not multiple people in the office. Larger degree of access and higher potential for problems.
Wow. Good to know!
Slack is watching you. Always.
