Hi everyone,
I have a total 9+ work ex in Devops and Release Management. Did an executive mba with a goal of breaking into Program management but got recruited into Management Consulting . In this company for the past 3 months.
I feel that my overall skills are better off in a TPM/Program Management role.
My overall experience makes me eligible for most PM roles.
My question is how do I prep for a TPM role since I don’t have development or Scrum Master exposure. Amazon India VMware BrowserStack Inc.
I have received offer from Shell and SAP labs is in final stage salary discussion. Shell is offering 6 lacs more than @SAP labs. I have tried to negotiate a lot from SAP but they are not ready. They are putting conditions like give your full commitment to join then only we'll release offer letter. I am currently looking for work life balance with growth. Should I join @SAP considering its a Product based and good WLB and learning? Teck Stack - Java/Micro-services/cloud YOE - 11yrs

Ageism is a thing, even if people here are not admitting it. Banks want young guys (or gals) with no real commitments who can crush 15-19 hour days, 5-6 days a week and 8-10 hours on Sunday.
If you have little kids/family, I’d strongly weigh whether it’s worth it. I have 2 LO’s and cannot imagine doing the Associate grind, or even 1st/2nd year VP with them.
Not saying you’re a bad person if you go that route anyways, but just major food for thought.

I’m confused, is this unusual?
Yes you’ll be fine
You’ll be fine don’t let age stop you. Just make sure it’ll be something you enjoy because, as you know, there’s limited flexibility with your time and it’s a big factor to consider. Be open to other career paths out of your MBA but don’t let age hold you back
💯
You wouldn’t be the first. A lot of MBAs recruiting for IB, especially vets, are around that age.
I would just suggest to really dig into what is it that you want to do and why are you pursuing IB. Would talk to as many post-MBA associates as you can (happy to connect). If it’s truly what you want, go for it, age shouldn’t stop you. If you are going for it for the wrong reasons or unsure, you’ll put in a ton of effort just to get in and then burn out quickly. Also, if you have family, kids, or anything competing for your time it will make the demands of the job significantly more difficult.
What would you consider “wrong reasons”?
While ageism is a thing…I think SVP1’s perspective is slanting more toward if you have significant personal responsibilities vs outright age. MBA hiring is a formal recruiting pipeline involving a batch of candidates that are older and more experienced than 1) analyst hires and 2) A2As.
Less about admitting something and more about relevance.
I did it at 39. You’ll be fine.
That’s awesome! I pm’d you
Be sure to get an mba from a top school. Otherwise breaking into investment banking is difficult even with an mba
Second what SVP1 says about external commitments. Additionally, would also highlight that while you likely won’t be discriminated for your age, you *will* be reporting to people younger than you. If that’s something that makes you uncomfortable, you should strongly reconsider. It’s easy to say now that you’ll be fine, but when you start you’ll be relying on a 22 year old analyst to survive
💯
You will be fine! I did my MBA with local school at your age.
I’m happy to see this post. I felt like I was a dinosaur. I’m 36 too. I have completed my MBA.
Can you explain what is non- target ?
