Ehh. School is incredibly competitive and rigorous. Seems like you are open and aware of that but politics and corporate bs doesn’t go away when you go to medical school and eventually when you try to get placed in a residency... depending on where you live opening a private practice could be very rewarding. However, lots of practices around major cities have affiliations with large hospital networks so you aren’t quite getting away from corporate.... I’m not trying to convince you not to pursue. If you have a passion for medicine and service, you 100% should. However, just trying to make the point that the grass is always greener.
Well for at least 8 year you're going to trade corporate bs for hospital corporate BS. And healthcare is slowly being push towards centers of excellence (basically away from private practice).
But if it's something you really want, go for it. Just go in with your eyes wide open.
I don’t wanna be your first patient 😬😋. Go with your calling!
If you are easily depressed, don’t go though residency. Maybe you can do MBA/MD program and leverage both in a positive way in the healthcare field?
My partner is a doc in fellowship. I can tell your right now that, aside from his intern year, he has worked WAY less than I have. I wish he would STOP coming home at 2p and go in before 9a. Sure, sometimes he works nights. But I pull all nighters still.
Honestly depends on whether you are interested in moving somewhere “rural” to work in a practice or whether you want to work in a big city. My wife is an OB/Gyn and the most successful classmates all ran for the small towns and made fortunes, while the big metro MDs slave away in hospital owned practices for peanuts.
Perfect reply...my daughter finishing residency and opting for rural after fellowship...as parents we are tired to see her long journey with debts though we supported as much as we can..
It's never ending...
For your age assuming you might need to spend minimum 10 yrs more, at 40 yrs you will start practicing with debts...
Please remember...debt free is the happiest path and not everyone gets at your age...
You can always pursue your interest in many ways....titles, fame ..no one cares ..unless you are a celebrity in any field...
Bro..
With experience....you are planning heaven to hell with longest route...
You can plan other careers that are health related certified courses and make your life sweet and beautiful...
Medical education debts are huge...
Also docs life is not better compared to decade back....it's highly stressful not well paid unless you go for fellow ship....one failure you are back to square one...
Think of setting up hospital in rural area and hire docs...
Do it!
There is a whole host of different sets of politics. You should also be ready to suffer lack of autonomy as how you practice medicine is largely dictated by Medicare/Medicaid. Antiquated state laws about how you set up and run your practice. Running through hoops with patient health insurance companies and patients themselves are problematic— especially because you are so bombarded with all the paperwork you have to do to CYA— you only spend 5 minutes with them even though they waited 30 minutes for you with their WebMD research.
Then if you think you’re working to save lives— yeah you are —-but honestly it’s not going to feel all that good most of the time.
Pursue medicine because you love it. The work itself will be the reward.
But if you’re pursuing to escape your current problems— there are new ones waiting to take their place.
My cousin just did it at the age of 40 and now is finishing Med school. He’s so much happier than his previous profession (teacher) and is being accepted to a slew of Residency programs. Go for it!!!!

How much do you make currently? You won’t be earning well at least for next ten years.
Also research NP/PA practice autonomy. NPs have received independent practice rights in many states. PAs are also demanding independent practice rights. Specialities like, Primary care, Pediatrics, Anesthesia, Psychiatry etc may be impacted.
Go for it - I might end up down the same path
Yes
Do what you like friend ! Rooting for you
Anyway he will do that what he wants
What about nursing ?
Do it. Do it now!!
Do it! Why live a life where you not finding purpose and meaning when you have the opportunity to.
Go for it!
Life is short
Your life is not only your career. The best you can ask for is the freedom to follow your passion. Don’t settle.

If you see external validation for your decisions, you’ll never be happy. Do what makes you happy, and do it with conviction. Ignore the noise.
