It’s not outrageous, but it’s unlikely. I went to BC, had worked for 3 years in a prior high pressure career and had to leverage a second offer to get my starting salary (in NYC at a “top” agency) raised from 50 to 60. If you get 65+, good on ya, but don’t get upset or indignant if it doesn’t work out. The upside is my hard work, value, and a healthy serving of luck was quickly recognized and I was making 75 a year later, 90 2 years later and now 100 three years in.
I’ve been hearing this story a lot and it’s very good to hear. Thanks
I got 65k out of grad school for the agency I was interning at (4 years ago). Actually I lowballed myself at 60k, my vp countered at 65k, had me cry tears of joy. Then I found out another guy with same experience was paid 80k fresh out of grad school.
Potentially, but depends on the agency (like: droga? Lol good luck)
I would take advantage of the intern status and shop around a bit, network, get some ~coals warming~. You can get away with making “agency tours” for most of your internship, meaning you can meet tons of awesome people. That way if the internship agency won’t give you what you want, you might be able to negotiate other offers with your new network connections. You’ve got direct connections at almost every agency now, use them
You’ve got all summer! You got this
I also had 4 years of sales and marketing experience under my belt before I went back to school
Not outrageous. That’s what I got in NYC coming from the same school 😉
But, since you’re interning there already, they’re going to try to get you for a lot less. If it’s Droga or something similar, $65k won’t happen. They don’t have to, so they won’t.
My advice: Interview like crazy, and do your best to get an offer you can use to counter.
