New 4Runner or Land Cruiser for the reliability and boxy looks
4Runner is gorgeous,. need that
A bronco is a tiny step up. In quintessential Big 3 American automaker fashion, ford had a chance to usurp jeep in the off-roader category if they created a decently reliable wrangler alternative. But they didn’t.
Recalls around grenading engines, soft top roofs, gas leaks etc. are out there. A simple google search will show you all that. Don’t recommend either if your mom is looking for a fun, reliable off-roader
I am not a fan off any of the ford or GM turbos depending on where you live. In the Midwest, the intercoolers freeze up in the winter and have no power. This also sets the CEL which makes the remote start inoperative. As far as fuel mileage, the bronco is much better.
Terrible in what regard? You don’t buy a jeep for comfort, you know what you’re getting with it. Parents have a 2013 wrangler that’s pushing 200k miles and still going, I’m inclined to say keep with the jeep route.
Huh, probably not wrong in all honesty. My FIL has an F150 that’s been nothing but trouble which is why I am not super keen on the bronco, but as with the jeep YMMV
Rising Star
Stellantis isn’t exactly known for excellence, per se. They make vehicles that have cult followings, like the aforementioned Jeep Wrangler, and the Dodge Charger/Challenger.
Your mom said it herself: She’s a Jeep person. “It’s a Jeep thing. You wouldn’t understand.” I still don’t understand, and likely never will. Out of the box, the Wrangler is immensely capable off road, and that’s where most of these vehicles will spend maybe 1% of their total mileage.
The same sacrifices in comfort and finish were made in the Bronco. Owners like the Bronco, but it’s been plagued with issues. Do the owners care? Probably not. They’re not making a decision based upon rationality.
If your mom is the type who goes off roading once a month, the answer is that she should buy a Wrangler from the 90s, and then something more comfortable to daily drive.
Will she do that? Probably not. She’s going to get another Jeep.
Ford stands for found on road dead. I think jeep would be better.
Bronco is good
