I’m an Analytics Consultant looking for industry roles as a data analyst/BI Developer. I’ve had a few recruiters and job postings ask directly for a dashboard sample. I obviously can’t give them anything I’ve worked on because of client’s proprietary data and NDAs. Has anyone run into this problem before? Did you end up making a dashboard with public data solely for industry interviews?

I was in my interview with Deloitte. I said that I did not have any samples as most of my work was client work and I was forbidden to take samples. I then told them that I would be more than happy to walk them through the visuals I had built out and the logic behind them by utilizing a wireframe. They were entirely content with the answer and the interview went quite well. Good thing too, as I had never built a dashboard in my life. I was a front end developer.

Hey man, day one of my role in BI, I copied the template from Microsoft data stories, changed the colors and the formatting, font, colors (to the companies ones naturally) and proclaimed my awesomeness to my leadership.

What’s the best way to prep for interviews and what kind of questions can I expect them to ask me? I guess I’m not 100% confident since I still feel like I have a lot to learn about IA and internal control testing.
