Customer service is a lost art...people value and treasure good experiences. Remember as a manager you have 2 types of customers...internal (employees) and customers. Respect and kindness will take you were experience wont
Confidence is key. Be confident you're going to make mistakes and be confident in knowing we're all only human, and we're all growing and learning. We're all going to make mistakes, so never get down on yourself or your team when they happen. Use them as a learning experience to be a better and better you and a better and better team. Your team is only ever as strong as its weakest members, so it's important to build them up.
Accept feedback graciously. Understand that the associates who have been there a while know more than you do and allow yourself to learn from them. Don’t ever forget where you came from and treat others how you wanted to be treated when you were in their position. Don’t let them walk over you but don’t be a tyrant. Ask questions and really listen to answers. For me there was nothing more frustrating than someone who wasn’t able to learn and had to be taught the same thing multiple times, or new management coming in like they were about to take over the place acting like because they were management they didn’t have to listen to what anyone else had to say when giving guidance during training.
