I'm an investment banker and in late stages of a couple CorpDev roles of Fortune 200 companies. Both roles report to Head of CorpDev. I would be interested to understand the typical career progression. Assuming Head of CorpDev will stay in position for the next 5-10 years, what is the expectation of upward mobility then? Is it more common to progress through jumping around to different companies?

I'm head of strategy and corp dev at a UMM/Big Cap PE portco. Happy to chat.

like

Yes, no problem at all! Send me a DM.

Depends on the company. Typically Corp Dev teams have less attrition compared to PE or IB so the chances are not always there.

like

Yes, I could imagine this. I am still doing my due diligence.. The role is definitely interesting, just wanted to make sure the career progression

Depending on the level you come in at and the size of the team, there could be short term progression in terms of Associate to Manager, Manager to Associate Director -type promotions (with increases in comp and responsibility), but moving companies is definitely another way to go about it when "Head of" or other higher positions come up. There can be some complexity in trying to move within your sector with garden leave considerations, but shouldn't be any more than in IB.

Sounds good. This is super helpful! I just learned that there is a potential promotion to be a Head of "...", under the Head of CorpDev herself. So that should be an interesting opportunity.

I currently work at a medium sized firm and have about two years experience in personal injury litigation. The billable hours and lack of work life balance are really getting to me and I am looking to switch to something else out of litigation, preferably in house. I am also looking to relocate to a different state. How do I go about properly marketing myself to companies that might not take my relocation and minimal experience seriously?

Advice on applying to PM jobs with 1yr APM experience?

I’ve been working as an APM at my current company for 1yr, and have basically been doing the work of a full blown PM the entire time. I’ve lead several features from start to finish and made sure to mention in my resume that I have been doing everything a regular PM does. Has anyone ever hired an APM for a PM role or done it yourself? Any tips? Advice?

My experience is as follows: BIG4 Audit > FP&A (CPG) > CD analyst (1 year)
