I’m being asked by my boss to choose a specialization to focus on because they like senior managers to have an expertise. The problem is, I don’t know what I want.

I’ve been thinking about it for six months and I still don’t know. I specialize in accounting and most of my experience is internal and external audit with a smattering of accounting technical assistance. Cont. in comments

I’ve been doing work for governments (state local federal), occasional universities/school districts, special districts and nonprofits.

I like my area (public sector) but I don’t know what niche of this area to choose.

How did other senior managers choose their niche and do you have any tips on choosing?

Was going to say what are the specialties of other SMs in your group? Is there one area/type of client that’s currently underserved? Or one area/type of client that is the bulk of your group’s revenue?

Left IBD to quickly - VP1 opps?

Long story short - was lured into an opportunity to do BD for a large PE PortCo… better work/life balance, but honestly miss the deal cycle.

Anyone know of open VP1 opps right now?

Quick background - former MM banker (think Raymond James, Piper Sandler size) doing FinTech and Asset Management within FIG, but also open to other sectors.

Thanks!

Outside of FAANG, what are good large CA-based tech companies that provide good pay, WLB, and culture? DD has great people and WLB, but pay is low and you’re not given the tools and resources to succeed + truly make an impact. Google and Apple are ideal but need backups. Like is Salesforce still good? A company along those lines.
