Im feeling a little hurt rn and i want to know if im a little crazy for being upset. Im a summer in big law. One of the partners decided to take the summers for lunch (there are 4 of us) and sent us an invite the day before. I accepted and let them know i have a project to tend to with another partner from the firm (we had to go to work with another firms office for the project) that morning but will meet them at the restaurant. I let them know when i left and was walked 20 mins in the heat,

You're probably being a little sensitive in thinking they're gonna wait for you, partners are busy and have their own stuff to tend to so can't wait around for summers to get to lunch. Though I'd be pissed too if he knew about your dietary restrictions and decided on that places anyway.

In any event, you should take this as your first valuable lesson that biglaw partners do not really care about you.

like

You are totally right. I know this partner was pretty free and had kept an hour for the lunch and i came only a few minutes late (the just got there earlier than planned).

I just feel like if you are trying to recruit summers, you shouldnt be doing that. All the other big law firm summer associates i know never ever pay for their own lunch during the week and are treated royally. Even the other firm which we were collaborating with on a project and were working in their office offered to buy me lunch and were really kind. Something about it kind of rubbed me the wrong way….

like

I know it feels like work sometimes, but you gotta be ‘friends’ with other summers. Generally partners aren’t gonna care about stuff like this, but other summers should have your back. They could’ve easily let you know about the situation

In heels and got there only to find out they chose an exclusively pescatarian place (i cant eat anything seafood i get hives and really sick and they knew that from the beginning) and not only that but everyone ate. So i didnt get to eat at all. I felt really hurt by this and they weren’t apologetic about it. Am i being too sensitive?

I'm a cashier. We just got a new manager, and she's making things really hard for us. She starts work at 4:30am and leaves around 2:30pm, but she still expects us to stay until 6pm and work on the weekends! She gives us really long shifts and doesn't give us much time for breaks. And when we ask her about it, she gets mad.

I'm worried that if I speak up, she'll make my life even harder. I don't want to lose my job because of this—do you guys have any advice?

I just finished a big jury trial with a senior partner (SP). There were co-parties w/separate counsel. SP mentally checked out, to the point that co-counsel was asking what SP was doing/if SP was okay. I ended up handling most everything. SP did a few parts but went rogue and did things that were offensive/risky/bad for client. It became clear that SP is not performing like SP used to and may be a liability. Do I tell someone at my firm? Don’t want to offend SP or cause drama, but I’m concerned.

Currently working at EY and recently promoted Senior looking to switch into a Business Transformation consulting role. Could anyone provide some insights on the day to day, as we as the interview process? Thank you very much.

Hi-I have 120K in cash in HYSA. After keeping emergency fund aside. Still have 75-80K available that I plan to invest. After 401k, HSA, IRA and monthly expenses: we are left with 6K every month. So investing 12K every month in market. My worry is with that rate - it will take us 12-14 months to move the extra 75-80K mentioned above. However do not want to make a bulk move. Any advise how to plan the switch. At present have 60K invested in stocks. Thanks
