Depending on your interest and time, you could look into volunteering your UX skills via places like UX Rescue. It’s not guaranteed you’ll get a volunteer role, but it could help to get skills on different projects. A lot of the projects on UX Rescue are also start up type, so a lot of stuff to do
1. design systems are your in for enterprise-level companies in Toronto. create a multi-brand, multi-product fake design system with documentation and tokens/variables in Figma.
2. Apply for smaller or larger companies to lead UI/UX design systems but the main goal is to be on a design system team for large teams.
3. Once you are part of the design system team, you'll be involved in research, UX teams, UI teams, and tech teams. Jump in and grab all you can learn, be involved with as many projects as IA, templates, and CMS authoring tools. UX projects, and research projects. As part of the design system team you'll have access to be involved in it all.
4. use those projects to build up your experience and most important portfolio. Don't be afraid to hack other people's work on your team. hack up their presentations, tools, how they did it. Take it all in.

I’ve worked on projects at all different stages of the SDLC but never one where I’ve been part of everything. The closest was working on internal employee tools.
