Unless your daughter is a medical exception, you are being played. Don't do it. There are definitely a few scammer dentists and orthodontists and it seems you've found one. Get a different orthodontist
Getting second opinions never hurt and are always free. Always get a second opinion and if necessary get a third
K1 I’m from the UK... so part of me thinks this is the whole - English people have fucked up teeth thing / orthodontics isn’t really popular / frequent over there
And can see from the dentist perspective that pulling in someone at 7 that needs to keep coming back for at least the next 10 years is a great play...
I agree. It’s a business.
There are different ones though. Finally found great adult and kid dentist, unfortunately in different cities
7 is definitely young for braces. I got mine summer before 7th grade..
7 seems young. I think I was about 11 when I first got braces. That said there was some that may have been a year or two younger.
I wore braces for two years and then retainers
Get a consult from another orthodontist. There could be a reason, but seems way to young.
If your child's bones are still growing, it could be a waste of money.
7 year olds don't even have a full set of adult teeth
Yup, you’re intuition is right
Our 7 year old got an expander and then braces to repair a cross bite. The orthodontist explained why he was doing what he was doing and we could see
Yeh the ortho is meant to be very good... at least highly qualified from top schools, USC and UCLA... in this country tho, doesn’t that mean she’s probably in more debt?!! I’ll interrogate tomorrow but suspect she will be able to convince me... wife thinks I’m being overly worried saying we should get a second opinion...
Sorry my post was cut off. We paid a one time fee which they recouped from our insurance. All his follow up visits have been “free” we have been in the process for about a year now. And we can really see the change in his face and smile
OP - Are you from east or west europe?
Agree that dentistry is the new scam field.
Only in rare situations will you ever need a deep cleaning. Also do your best to get detailed quotes that contain procedure codes before agreeing to any work. And if needed, ask for a pre-authorization where they run a claim against your insurance to know exactly what your final out of pocket bill will be.
I live in a pretty affluent area and have noticed young kids getting braces and it makes me think they're all paying for the local ortho's mortgage who has a $2M house in my neighborhood and just built a $3M house in the same neighborhood. Old house still on market. Anyway, if my dentist recommended braces for my 7 year old I would def get a second opinion. A good friend of mine ended up getting a set for her 7 year old after numerous consults and tons of research. She's conservative but ended up doing it due to something really rare. Anyway, I personally think <10 is way too young. Get a second opinion!!!
