People seem to be not reading the post that it’s salary PLUS commission. I would ask what people in that role typically earn in that role and how long it takes them to get there and base your decision off of that.

Commission based jobs aren't great because if you don't make any sales that you don't make money. It's basically a scam 95% of the time.
Suggest you find some former sales employees on LinkedIn and ask for their perspective about realistic total comp.
That strikes me as extremely low as a fixed comp view.
For context, I took my first job after college with a BFA in 2007, at a salary of $32,000. It was low, then.
Gave me my start, I suppose, but I was hired on, with resentment. And that was over 18 years ago.
A bit of an update I’m not sure who will even see this. I did decided to accept the offer, but I’m keeping my options open. As this is an uncapped commission role, so long as I can put my best foot forward I see no reason for me to not succeed, and moving into a higher role is something I expressed interest in, and they told me that if I do well and want to move into management, I can interview for it. I’m still accepting interviews in the meantime, as I won’t start until mid March due to still having 2 months left in the army, and if a better opportunity is offered, I’ll weigh my options
Look for SDP (sales development programs). Salary should be closer to $100k
As someone who worked in sales for many years (and still dabbles) it entirely depends on commission rates. The base salary means next to nothing. Are you a good salesperson? If you have no experience you may need to rely on salary. But many sales jobs are commission only or mostly commission, and you make the most with those.
That does seem incredibly low. Especially if you're not sure what kind of commission you'll be making. I would certainly encourage you to negotiate but I doubt they're going to almost double the base salary they offered.
Are you retiring from the army. How many years of work experience do you have. Asking for double probably not going to happen but the base seems low. To many variables to give you a definitive answer.
Pro
Entirely depends on the variable component with commissions. Higher based sales will typically involve tiered commissions with quotas at each tier.
For example, my wife is in tech sales. Her base is $48k with an OTE of mid six figures based on commissions from dollar one and no quotas. She has colleagues with $150k base but their quota structure limits their OTE significantly and they have to sell 2-3x to reach the same total comp as my wife. She's good at what she does and a few times she's cleared seven figures.
Was going to say this. Base comp didn’t really matter if your job is commissions based. Need to know the commission structure to know if it’s a good offer or not

No it’s not insulting at all. Companies are really low balling employees these days because they know the market is so bad. Negotiating is a step worth taking if you want to push your earnings higher.
Thank you for your service.
Before you take the job - Make sure you’re asking them about growth and how it works there and under what timeline.
After you take the job (any job) - set boundaries and hold them.
Get a job as a contractor in the government! With you experience you can get that salary there! Or even more

I don’t think you are in a strong position to negotiate for much higher salary, as apparently you don’t have experience in that job. Yes, it is a low-ball offer, but what is the downside of accepting it? You can accept the job offer, while you keep looking for a better one. Your chances of landing another job are better while you are hired. And you would be earning a salary while searching instead of finding yourself with no job for months
