I’m looking to formally pivot to HR. My experience has been a jack of all trades, operations, some HR, some finance, etc. I’m currently a Director of a federal agency that I’ve been with for 7 years. I’m looking to transition back into the private sector. Would a SHRM-SCP help with the transition and will the certification make a difference?

My wife, an HR professional: In short, generally yes.

It is one of the most widely recognized professional certifications in the industry. Another association to consider would be HRCI which has SPHR or PHR. Take a look at a job description from the company you want to join, they may indicate a preference on association. Both certifications require experience and education, but will allow less of one for more of the other.

Good luck, happy hunting!

I'm currently working as an electrical designer in the MEP industry. I really don't like it and I'm working towards a career change which I'm actively applying for and getting certified etc. However, it's been a slow process and I'm currently underpaid where I am so would it be wise to make a lateral move to another MEP firm simply because they offer me more money while I still look for a different job separate from this field? Or just tough it out?

I recently did a job interview and I made it clear to the HR my expectation salary is 60k a year, non negotiable.

Should I accept the offer or renegotiate?
