👀 how’d you get in.. to Canada? 👀
I was new 2 years ago 🙈
I have been working in fulltime in Canada, but this is the first time I take a freelance job outside my regular job
Yes.
I think the official rule is you only need to charge it after you earn something like $30,000, but it's just easier to charge from the beginning.
I forget the exact number. Google it, you'll find it.
And you'll have to get a GST/HST number and set yourself up as a sole proprietor through Canada revenue agency.
Just studied the CRA website, we don’t have to register it if the income from freelance is less than 30k, but we can still set it up voluntarily, although CRA doesn’t suggest so.
Hope I will reach 30K one day haha

This is an interesting idea I’d love to try in the States. As companies are paying freelancers less, while they charge taxes to their clients, maybe we should start to add it in. Doubt it would fly, but a cool thought to push back.

We just build it all in to a general day or hourly rate. Freelancers in the states pay higher taxes than staff employees. So our freelance rates are traditionally the highest in the world.
Unrelated, 30/hr for motion seems low, my friend with ~5 years motion experience charges 100/hr
yea that makes sense but that’s the only reference I can get, don’t really have connection here .. is there any standard hourly rate for this industry?
