I’m new to the city and have noticed a lot of restaurants are charging an extra 4-5% to “help cover increasing costs and provide benefits to employees”. Is this normal here? Kind of annoying that as a consumer I have to absorb these cost instead of the restaurant which is the actual employer.

I saw it first as a way to express displeasure at the increase in minimum wage a few years back. Now I guess it’s here to stay!

like

Yes, it’s normal. Have noticed it since I moved here in 2019.

It's definitely a newer thing in the last few years, but ya, there are some restaurants that do it. I agree, it's annoying AF, especially an ex server knowing restaurants don't take care of you for shit

Any Bridge Engineers/Structural Engineers in here? I got my PE this year and have 5 YOE in TX + an MS. What sort of raise would you expect for receiving your PE working in a consulting firm? I'm at 78k currently, which is apparently still in the upper range of EIT salaries per a job posting in CO. I'm thinking of 15% (5% merit, 10% PE). Any ideas?
