I'm not sure how to digest this information. I was at a review with a partner the other day, and during lunch, he mentioned that the partners, himself included, see me as a future partner.

Wondering if it's just a tactic to make me stay at the firm as oppose to find new opportunities if they give me really bad raise this year.

I’d just appreciate the comment and move on, if you’re still in the grind then keep grinding if you’re already halfway out then a meaningless comment shouldn’t change your mind

It’s a good positive comment. And you should appreciate it sincerely. But if you’re not sure how to feel about it, and your title says manager as opposed to senior manager so it’s likely just something he’s saying to keep you working on that path (and at the firm).

So i would use it as an excuse to ask about the path to partner including timeline and what you should be demonstrating and doing. Then follow up periodically, assuming it’s something you want too.

Unless you are close to partner, they just gassing your head up. Trying to keep the better workers at the lowest rate.
Keep working those 70 hour weeks and making them rich! 😆

If you are interested, for some crazy reason, ask them (and h/r) what the best path to partner is?
And what they base the reviews and decisions on. That way you can try to meet or exceed the goals they are looking for.

Do you want to eventually become a partner?

As a former B4 employee, I am cautious of these kinds of comments, but going into a smaller boutique firm, I think this caught me off guard. Being a partner here looks like something I can achieve in the next few years, considering that the senior partners are inching towards retirement and may be including me as part of their succession planning.

Any experienced senior managers that have moved between Big 4 firms? Can you speak towards your experience, any struggles, and opportunities in terms of partner promotion? Frankly, EY path to partner seems to be too clouded (long pipeline, no clear direction/path, uncertainty on promotion cycles, etc.) at the moment and I would like to visit all options. Appreciate the input.

I asked for a raise and instead got laid off. Told that after looking into finances not only can they not afford a raise they cannot afford me. But I know for a fact they are replacing me with an Agency that say they can run our Social Media for 500pcm. Is this normal practice these days?

I don’t want to be greedy but it’s so expensive out here… Thank you 🌈
