Similar issue; switch to wfh role
This sounds like a really great idea.
New home is a safe bet. You get builders warranty if any issues. You won’t know what problems will eventually arise within the older home, and it could be a money pit. I faced a similar situation except the newer home was built already. Options were to buy a bigger/nicer home further away from the city with bigger backyard and inground pool, or buy closer with houses on top of each other that were built in the late 80s. Worked out in my favor since crime has surged in the city and is now spreading to surrounding neighborhoods.
OP's concern is the traffic. DFW wasn't prepared for their growth, so he will not be able to enjoy his house because he will spend most of his day at the office and then sitting in traffic.

New home and new remote friendly job. Enjoy your new house.
WFH could solve all his problems!
Not worth the drive to DFW. Traffic is just getting worse and worse. I assume you work downtown, so if you move to the suburbs, expect 1 hr of commute per way, if not more. That is a lot of time. Buy something closer, and you won't regret it. Dallas's properties are still growing, so you can constantly assess them in a couple of years.
I personally would go for the longer commute with the new build. There is something about building your home and getting to pick eerything out in it that feels soooooo good. The commute will be worth it.
If you are going with the close option, consider buying a quadplex with a short commute. You can maximize value and get paid for living there as a bonus.
Personally, old home and shorter commute. Would rather spend the money fixing up a home then wasting my life on long commutes and traffic - but that's just me
How about a WFH? Is it not one of the options? If not, I think a new built home would be your safest bet right now.
