Pretty sure some of my seniors were making more than me as an M1. They were experienced hires and I started with the firm as a staff 1. That’s just how it is sometimes.
Leaving my current firm for the same reason. They’d rather spend money on attracting new talent than on maintaining current talent. If my new firm does the same thing, I’ll move onto a higher paying role elsewhere... again.
If you don’t suck at your job and have been there for a year or so, 9 times out of 10, another employer will offer you more.
Also depends which line you are in - as a CPA in M&A I know that seniors with llm made more than me when i was a new manager. It didn’t make me sympathetic to their complaints about salary but I’m pretty sure they never felt uncomfortable about making more than me. Supposedly evens out by SM
Same position. I’m a CPA in M&A (and started as a staff 1 with the firm and worked my way up) and I had seniors with JD/LLMs that were experienced hires working for me.
It happens often: the loyalty penalty. At some point another new hire at a lower rank than you may make more, so just enjoy.
Thank you 😊
No. Not your fault, but that is strange if you’re saying the firm pays you more than a first year manager. If you’re saying that with all income streams, you make more than your manager, then I leave you with this: “Weird flex, but okay?”
Okay that makes a lot of sense. You’re offered market rate when you join and due to no raises or other comp factors, the manager is probably lagging behind a bit.
Na. He will realize it and leave. As a SM I just realized some managers in small local firms are earning more than me...that shot helped me to open my eyes to other opportunities...
And they work so hard too. I’m like brah we haven’t even gotten the entire support yet.. why ya stressing?
I’m a manager in EY-P (non-mba) and get paid less than seniors with mbas - I just make them work for that cash 😂 looking to leave for a massive pay raise next year
Why would you make more than manager? Are you S3?
The loyalty doesn’t make sense to me. Like they can cut you with a days notice and we feel like we have an obligation to the firm. It is just a job. Spending time relaxing is more productive 😈
Peoples comp is different for tons of reasons including degrees, past performance, whether the firm is spending a fortune on their visa...
How would you know that?
Misspoke.. I’m definitely sure
OP whatchu make? I interviewed at EY as an newly promoted S3 and they offered me $85k (less than I was making at Pdubs)... I ended up taking $104 base + $10k signing at a midtier.
