I'm reading about consolidation for people that have multiple federal loans over different time periods. I have one undergrad loan that entered repayment in 1999. It's about $2,000. I have another $180,000 in loans, about half undergrad (240 month forgiveness), half grad (300 month forgiveness) some variable rate, some fixed rate, call the average 6-7%.

Am I understanding correctly that ALL my loans will get a payment count adjustment to 1999 if I consolidate?!

The terms will vary based on each person, but yes, in the lamest terms, all of your payments should be put under one payment with a lower interest payment so you can pay debt off faster.

To Senior Manager, I would definitely call Student Aid.gov and see if you can get some guidance!

I put in my application for consolidation and confirmed oldest loan should be at 294 payments post-IDR adjustment. Theoretically, that means total forgiveness in 6 more months to get to 300 payments. I made this potential $170,000 discovery just casually reading some news articles. If anyone out there has decades old loans, please go read about the one time IDR adjustment and the very special rules in place right now for consolidation if you apply by 4/30. Btw, this situation I'm describing is totally different from and unrelated to the public service loan forgiveness. You don't have to work for a government or non-profit. This is straight up (or being treated as) "I paid for 25 years on an income based repayment plan" forgiveness.

I was wondering about this as well. I just don't know what the best thing is honestly and student loans are giving me a headache.

I just hit my lean fire number but am hesitating to pull the trigger, so was hoping to run it by people smarter than me:

- I have a few rentals that bring in ~$1800/mo cash flow, taxes are negligible, Capex incl.
- My paper assets will bring in ~$1200/mo at 3% draw
- I get free Healthcare at the VA
- No plans on kids
- My expenses haven't topped $30k/yr ever
- I could always reenter the workforce if needed (albeit probably not in consulting)

Please point out the flaws here, what am I missing?

Fish who have been feds,

I have been stuck deciding between two offers (both in IC, but one is more program analysis -similar to consulting work but on the fed side, and actual analysis).

The program analysis offer is at a higher GS level and a more well known agency, but is not what I’m interested in.

Does anyone have any advice on how to make a decision? Go with what I want to do, or go with the more well known agency and higher gs?

Interested in everyone’s opinions on replica luxury. I ask because, as noted in the previous thread re: Chanel’s price increases, the quality of authentic luxury bags is going way down while the price increases consistently. Specifically Chanel and LV. I’m fascinated in the online rep community and it looks like rep quality has increased exponentially (with genuine materials and 1:1 markings, stitching, hardware, etc). What’s your argument for or against replicas?
