I’m ready to go solo. I’m more concerned about replacing benefits and workflow than I am about finding clients and doing the work. Recommendations for health/dental insurance, bookkeeping/billing, etc? Thanks!

Go to your local bar associations website. They often offer insurance and resources for those wanting to go solo

I like MyCase because there are so many integrations. It makes it easy to automate things. I always recommend the Facebook group lawyer on the beach because they are big into different tools and services

like

ALPS is good for malpractice insurance.

I have health and dental through my spouse.

Filevine is good for case management, but CASEPeer is solid, too.

QuickBooks will help with bookkeeping.

Answering Legal is a good answering service to get when calls start increasing.

Go the virtual office route. Make sure there’s a physical location you can go to for appointments with clients. Regus is everywhere now. I would also get a P.O. Box.

Thinking about adjusting starting to eat at 9:30/10 tomorrow instead.

3 attorney firm. I’ve been here for 6 years and have used Westlaw exclusively. Now we are switching to Lexis because apparently Westlaw is too expensive. I hate change. Any insight on negotiating Westlaw or transitioning to lexis?

I work at a small, 3 lawyer firm. One of the lawyers is not barred in the state we practice. Because of this, the managing attorney has been having him draft motions and other legal documents and use my name and bar number and having me file them because I will have to appear in court for the matter. Is this normal? I am not provided time to review the materials before I file them so I end up working longer days because I am nervous to file something using my name and bar number.
