Yes. My full time job with the VA has been a blessing in disguise. I worked part time on and off at Eckerd/CVS for the past 25 years (in addition to my full time position at the VA) I will never go back to retail for the following reasons:
I get 50 days (400 hours) of PTO every year
I am working 100% remote/work from home
I work 8a-430p Mon-Fri (no weekends no on call)
I'm making over $86/hr (over $180k per year)
I will be able to retire at 57 and have a decent pension
along with $2M+ in my 401k.
This is also true for clinical pharmacist in Washington. My colleague makes about the same ($85-90/hr) at my place, much older than me though. I also know people who work night making $110+/hour
Depends on the company. In my experience in hospital, the demands for things required each shift increased each year, the pay increases got smaller and management switched to a scheduling system that forces everyone to work every shift, so you end up working nights, days & evenings. The organization of those shifts can be pretty random making work/life balance non-existent and staff exhausted.
