I'm so frustrated. I need a job right now. But most of the applications I sent out didn't even get me an interview. Is it really hard to find a job right now?

It took me about 9 months to land a job offer, definitely a journey with ups and downs. If you’re in the middle of your search, don’t give up. One thing that really helped me was using AI to refine my resume with impact (just make sure to proofread and make it your own). Keep going and your opportunity will come.

Even the strongest of candidates won’t convert most applications into interviews. That is an unrealistically high expectation, even for the good times. And those are long behind us now.

like

Yes it’s very hard. I’m sorry you have to go through it. My partner had graduated from a top school with an accounting degree and it took him 6 months to find a job. Applying to hundreds of things.

like

how many interviews have you passed till you get a first offer?

I think it’s a mix of recruiting companies not vetting candidates properly and the hiring manager not knowing what exactly is needed to fill the role. Don’t give up take a break for a few days then get back to it.

Yes, very tough right now especially with some large company laying off tens of thousands of tech folks. The market is flooded with out of work technical people. I've been looking since December - I have never been out of work this long.

It's not just you, most applications never even reach a human. ATS systems filter out resumes before anyone reads them. The frustrating truth is that a great background can still get ignored if the resume isn't structured the right way. What kind of roles are you going for?

Ive gone 9 months without a job and it can be really hard in an employer market. Keep applying but if you are not even getting a phone call you may need to change up your CV, they go through an ATS and may be looking for key words.

My final round with Deloitte for UK Tech Consulting Manager position soon. Strangely it’s not a PMD round as it usually is for other Big4/tech consulting firms.
1. Can anyone tell me if they’ve been through the whole process without speaking to PMD? (First round Sr Manager, second Case Interview by a manager and third again by a manager) 2. What is a typical salary to expect? I was asked in screening but kept it vague (e.g can discuss later bla bla). I was hoping 75-80 (ridiculous?)

Been in the strat game for over a decade; I’ve realized that a strong department with clear process that is built on end to end problem solving (with time to think) is when I’m happiest vs this award show / case study grind. I had cleared the interview and after the HR discussion, I checked my application status and could see that its on hold state. The reason written is that we dont have any opening matching your expected compensation. I didn't know that for level 10, 13.2 LPA is the maximum they can offer. When I had discussion with the HR told my expectation as 14 LPA as fixed, she didn't negotiate then, just my profile on hold and no one is replying now. I am ready to negotiate now but how can I do that now?

Career advice?

I'm a relatively junior data engineer (2yoe), the only other engineer (senior) that trained me left about a 6 months ago and I negotiated a nice raise for the extra responsibilities.

My performance reviews have been stellar, but my manager is starting to look to hire a senior to help me deliver projects as we do lack capacity right now.

I feel like I might be missing an opportunity to ask for a promotion and hire a junior instead.

Any opinions/tips?

Hi everyone, a question to the tech industry at large.

Why are people so hesitant to hire disabled candidates?
