McKinsey & Company Hi all! Any fishes at BCG and/or McK have time to chat sometime within the next few days/weeks?
I’m a consulting analyst at Accenture, really interested in strategy work (mainly tech/software clients but open to all backgrounds) hoping to make the jump some time next year. I’d very much appreciate connecting to understand your journey with the firms and the work you do.
Thanks in advance, and happy holidays!

McKinsey & Company I am joining the McKinsey & Company Boston office in late July and searching for housing in the meantime. If I could get some insight on the ratio of days in the office vs work from home that would be super helpful!
If I need to come into the office regularly I will try to find a place close by.
A BCG recruiter ghosted me after she reached out to schedule an interview. How long should I wait before following up? What is the common courtesy to give to ppl at BCG. I don’t wanna come off as too aggressive but I really need to get this interview set as there are other pending confirmations Boston Consulting Group

There are pros/cons to leaving at each level, and there’s never really a bad time. At the AP/BCG “Partner” level it gets hard to leave for similar comp though.
I’d view your time at MBB in roughly 2 year chunks. It can be a lot different than you think once the rubber meets the road. Just because you think you want to make partner now doesn’t mean that 1) you’ll still want that in 2 years, and 2) the firm will want to keep you on that path. If 2 years in you’re still liking it then you have a perspective of what you want your next 2-4 years to look like, and whether that means staying or leaving.
All said, if buying a house will make you feel settled in your new city and your break even timeline is in the 2-4 year time horizon then go for it. Worst case you sell a little early and are roughly where you would’ve been financially had you rented, but felt like you had a real home during that time.
FWIW I was in similar position and bought a condo just before starting at Bain for the reason above. 3.5 years later and I don’t regret the decision at all.
Buy a smaller home in a growing area, then rent in 2 years. You have less risk invested in case an exit opp takes you to another city, and if you stay you can turn a profit renting this home. Id love to hear about your interview process. I’m in the middle of it for an MBB firm.
Median MBB lifespan is 3 years, would not plan around that job.
