On the bright side and depending on your specific roles and responsibilities, could be a little more AI-proof than other roles
Hmmm maybe. But IMO getting stuff done across teams and delivering on time/budget isn’t something a computer can do. Sure AI can help but you need to sit in front of the key stakeholders, get them to move roadblocks, deal with unexpected risks etc. Seems to me there will always be a need for PMs but maybe just not as many.
Your title says consultant. If you are at à larger firm then there should be an opportunity to switch to a narrow and deep engagement. Talk to the matchmaker team in the firm. Network with them. Check back in atleast every other month. Be front of their minds when something that you like opens up.
What are your actual skills? Do you have tech chops? It’s very hard to recommend options when you say you hate PMO work and have been doing it a couple months…. But what else have you done?
You didnt mention your skillet. Can you code? Do you have any other specialized knowledge (supply chain/logistics, ERP, etc) that would allow you to go deeper than surface?
PMO work comes up frequently in consulting. You may want to pursue another career path entirely if you cant/won't do PMO work.
To answer more directly. I don’t know anything about supply chain/logistics, ERP, coding. I’m trying to find ways to up my technical skillset because I’m just a generalist who’s always done a sort of administrative/staff augmentation role.
I hate PMO too, but sadly I don't have any other skills. Haha it's either this or change management 😂
