Is there a teledoc/telehealth service you could reach out to? They should be able to get you a letter, but they may need to see a record of diagnosis.
In that case, you can also try to contact your previous PCP/therapist and request a copy of your medical records.
I haven’t had a PCP in years and only recently realized I needed a therapist. I’ve tried teladoc but they said with no history of diagnoses they can’t do much to sign off on anything. It’s my own fault for being stuck in this situation.
Does your company have an “Employee Assistance Program”? They are a great resource for mental health related issues and are confidential. Many have provided therapy via zoom during the pandemic. Check your benefit package.
I did and they were great, but they could only refer me and are having trouble finding a therapist with open availability soon because everyone is booked.
Psychology Today has a directory that you can sort therapists by zip code, insurance and other factors. It includes a statement of the therapist’s approach, and tells you if they do virtual visits (most do). Maybe you can find a therapist that way.
Thanks, I’ll look into this!
Do you have any vacation time saved up? Maybe start with that as a break while you get to a doctor.
See my post above to the Havas person.
I was recently on a 6 week paid leave for this exact reason. My short term disability was denied even with my doctors paperwork - it’s extremely hard to get that approved from what I’ve seen for mental health. However, I was approved for FMLA (family leave medical act) which was paid out at 100% through my company. Reach out to your HR and benefits coordinator to ask about FMLA. Call your healthcare provider and be seen by any doctor, they will likely be able to help with the paperwork if you explain the situation. I was seen by a random doctor who prescribed me Xanax and lexapro and agreeded to provide necessary paperwork even though I only saw her once.
My company doesn’t pay for FMLA. It’s unpaid leave and I can’t afford to take unpaid leave.
