I had an interview over the summer for a bank. I liked the hiring manager but i had knots in my stomach through the entire process. I spoke to people that i really liked a lot but an associate spilled the beans that there was no deal flow there. I found that to be a red flag. I also got the sense there were some ethics/compliance issues after speaking to the associate on the deals they did do. The final blow was when i talked to the head of the entire division. He seemed drunk during the interview and overall came across as unprofessional. I probably would have accepted despite the knots and deal flow because i was desperate if i hadn’t spoken to him. He was the biggest red flag of all and i couldn’t understand why everyone idolized him.

I’ve realize people that are overly confident in themselves are probably not as skilled as they act. I also think that behaviors that are seen as historically red flags should be rethought. People that are awkward or don’t have great social skills might be neurodivergent, if social skills aren’t a requirement then I over look that.

I think anything in interviews that mentions the company culture more than the actual job - such a red flag!
