My base loc is Bengaluru, but currently I am not mandatorily required to work from office, and have been working from home since I joined Deloitte in July. Should I talk to my manager and go back to my hometown Kolkata and work from there? Staying in PG all day and working from here is not quite feasible for me. Suggest pls. Deloitte India

I have found that any company’s WFH policy is flexible once you’re in and you’ve proven yourself. In-house is a little more “face-time” centric than agencies but with a little time and effort, you can likely get the flexibility you need. If you don’t absolutely need to be able to WFH more often as of Day 1, and the job is a fit otherwise, go for it and build up your reputation as someone who gets their work done efficiently. You can then make a better case for flex options.
Thank you for this POV. Much appreciated.
That’s better than having an “open wfh policy” where you’re made to feel guilty when you WFH.
Interesting! I’d be transitioning from agency, and our current WFH is pretty chill. Not expecting to work from home everyday, but at least once a week.
My experience in-house was that there is less flexibility to work remote overall, but that the hours are far more certain. I’d work 9-530 on the dot with rare exception which was department wide, but maybe work from home 3x a month max.
As others have said, it’s also just about establishing yourself and gaining trust which I think comes in any new gig.
Official policy is that there isn’t one, but it’s very team and manager specific. Some are totally cool with 90% work from home, and others basically forbid it. It’s coming along, but it’s a slow process to change those deeply engrained views.
Yes, I agree completely. I have friends in-house at WeWork, P&G, LVMH, etc. those companies are very flexible. Seems rigid to me that companies are still unwelcoming to WFH and/or employees being remote in general. Workplace culture is evolving.
