Moving from US to Canada. What salary should I target for M/SM roles at Big 4 and outside? Is 150k CAD reasonable?
I accepted a job from a place my friend works. She got me in and I'd be dropping a title level but making the same $ as my previous role. I accept and 1 day later my #1 on the list came through. better title, pay and benefits. The first company is stoked to have me and everyone is nice. I'm sure on the culture. I reached out to company 2 the week before I accepted this offer and they weren't ready, but now they are. They seem great, but so does everyone when you meet them. What do I do?

Curious as to the different outlets you can take after advertising/PR. I am early in my career and I want to explore as many different options as possible
Apartment hunting. What are thoughts on East Village and Fidi as neighborhoods? Are there any areas of Fidi that won’t be dead after 8pm or on weekdays? Are both safe?
I have an opportunity to become a fractional CMO for a startup that I really like. I have no idea what to charge hourly. I’m reading online $200/hr+ but that seems crazy to me. It would be a 1099 role.
Am I underselling myself if I charge $150/hour for 10 hours of work a week? I typically charge this for my existing freelance rates, but that is not for CMO work.
Just saw someone with a BDO backpack faint on the bus going to work. She said she had a late night..... What are you guys doing over there? I’m scared straight

Has anyone else seen that AdAge post where you match the home office to the industry leader? Not to be “that person”, but did anyone else find it out of control tone deaf?
Just got my offer, looked at the fine print and saw they tried to sneak in only 10 vaca a yr and when I start I will be entitled to 7. What's the average vacation time? Feel like I'm getting lowballed

Would someone mind sending me links for any resources that exist for those who have been laid off? (Companies hiring/Available creatives). Had some super talented friends get laid off today 😞
Want to move agencies for a mid position, not at the best shop right now but had an internship at one of the top shops in my country. Should I list that agency first on the CV? Or is that pushing it?

Scored my first gig in advertising as an intern at BBH NY like 10 years ago. Part of the application asked for an original poem and I happened to be watching 16 and Pregnant on MTV. The preggo teenager was cursing out her partner so I wrote down the lines in all caps and got a call the next day.
Should I even bother right now trying to work at a decent agency in NYC or LA? Currently in a smaller market - eg. NZ, Australia, Canada. Goal is to improve my chances of doing good work (opportunities are limited at my current gig), but US agencies don’t seem to be sponsoring atm, so looking for jobs there feels like a disappointment and waste of energy.
When you're two weeks from dispatch on a three month long integrated project, and the leadership team decides they don't like anything about it any more despite approving it all at every check-in 🥴
AmeriSave or Gieco? Idk, but copying such a well known creative really grinds my gears.
I’ve been laid off for around 4 months now. Multiple interviews. Multiple rejections. Tons of applications/ resumes submitted. Crickets. Anyway to find out if you’re being blacklisted?
Any online classes, books, or resources that you know that teach conceptual thinking? I feel that the lack of feedback from my CD is hindering my progress to be a better creative.
How’s the agency market right now? Last year people were getting fired, cut hours, and laid off. This past month I’m seeing a lot of open roles. new accounts, and some potential, but still not AOR.
Do you think the bad is over?
Is there hope in advertising agencies or should we all go in-house?
Will we be able to do good work with good people (Directors, Photographers, Post Production ) again?
Negotiate base salary. My superfial understanding is that usually the equities and bonuses are more controlled and less negotiable unless you have the leverage. But 🤷🏻♂️
Salary is salary.
Bonus is bonus.
For me, those are two separate things and should be treated as such.
Maybe the equity but I, like, don't really understand how equity works. I'd have to look into that more.
Yeah I always think of them as separate. Like bonus and equity is the cherry on top.
So total comp IMO should be more than what we'd get as base elsewhere. If total comp = the market's base, that's bs.
That’s low. They know that’s not the going rate, call them out.
Always negotiate. It also helps to keep the conversations separate, if possible.
Negotiate your salary first, then your stock, then ask for a signing bonus. Not always possible, or not always advisable to approach this way but I found it has worked out well for me.
Negotiate higher. That’s mid.
Not unless those bonuses have a guaranteed minimum that ups your base compensation.
Sounds low bc I make more than that as an agency mid-level (in SF tho).
Agency promised bonuses when I got hired a year ago, but haven’t seen any of that. My understanding is that bonuses only really happens if I do good AND the agency does good, so i’m not expecting to see any bonuses now that we’re heading towards a recession.
The only way I would consider is if moving laterally salary-wise but moving up in title and maybe desperate too. Then I’d take the title and use it to jump to a higher pay elsewhere as soon as the opportunity comes up.
Never heard of agency bonuses being a consistency, you should ask what percentage and level of employee receives these AND how often this occurs year over year.
Sounds like a lot of questions I know but they’ll reveal data that likely shows the inconsistency of bonuses paid out.
Not necessarily true. Go ahead and ask but Plenty of agencies (mostly indies) give consistent profit sharing across the entire agency. We have given between 3-15% of annual salary in bonus to all employees consistently for over ten years. (% depends on agency performance obviously)
And it depends on what the equity structure is to know if it is worth it. Ask more questions about that.
Negotiate. Salary is real money and bonuses/equity is theoretical money. Never accept the promise of theoretical money in exchange for any real money.
Lol definitely negotiate. It's ridiculous that employers are trying to give a lower salary and say, "oh, but you get health insurance". (Happened to me)
