Is $90,000 for a starting senior role in tax low or average in the San Diego Area? Glass door had mixed answers.

It's about right for a Tax S1 in San Diego but about $15K to $20K too low for an experienced senior.

like

Lower end, but I think the range is $90k-$100k is the range my firm is offering in LA area. More if you’re specialized but I’m not sure how much more.

like

Depends. Compliance is ok. If specialty, you can do better.

No specialty. But now I’m considering it considering the replies. What kind of specialty pays well? I’d like to try and get into one if it’s not too late.

I thinks it’s on the lower end. Tax senior average comp in CA is around 100k.

I’m not sure… I recently got hired as a senior tax accountant in industry and they offered me 90k at first but I negotiated for 100k. I live in Orange County btw.

like

That’s about right for San Diego. Comp in SD is not quite as high as LA and the Bay Area. Also depends on the size of the firm (Big 4, mid tier, regional, etc).

Which firm? Want to work at Deloitte? Friends in California seem to be making good income these days

It’s a smaller firm. Big4 isn’t on my mind as of now , but perhaps in the future.

Compliance question here, I have always thought of the SALT deduction on the fed return as a perm item & have treated as such in such sch M-3. I see that some people put it as a temp on sch M-3. What is the justification for treating it as a temp on the M-3. You don’t set up a deferred on the def RF for the state tax deduct & it is also a rate impacting item (I know that some temps can be rate impacting). But this all leaves me to side with perm. Does anyone know the logic behind temp treatment?

Am I understanding utilization rate correctly? It’s chargeable time over total time? Charged 40 hours and had 10 hours non-charge so my utilization is 80%? If so, wouldn’t it benefit me to understate non-charge hours so my utilization is higher since they only really care about chargeable time anyways? Charge 40 hours still but only put 5 hours non-charge for utilization to be 89% instead of 80%? Or am I misunderstanding how utilization works?

Working for a senior who is beyond horrible. She talks to you like you’re stupid and makes it sound like you’re absolutely terrible at what you’re doing. It’s known around the office that she can no longer have a female associate, because she talks down to females more than she does males.
