After an MBA, he would come back as SC in a strategy operation s. Its the same career trajectory. He can always network with his m&a with the various mba kids at the firm. What is promoting him to spend 200k? And come back to the same salary or role?
It depends. If your firm doesn’t honor that, plenty other places do.
What firm are you with? I am guessing D? I would totally recommend you get your MBA. 2 years on the firm will help you a lot in the long run. You are right you can go up and become an M but you’ll be restricted forever for jobs that require MBA which more and more is becoming a bit of an unsaid requirement in industry especially.
OP, if you plan to stay with your firm and in consulting, an MBA is not critical. What matters is whether you can deliver and eventually sell work.
If you want more career options, an MBA will make a difference, especially with the competition for top tier companies.
