Is anyone else having a hard time matching compensation? I’m currently making about $250k total comp. I’ve interviewed for several Director-level roles but most have total comp in the $190-220k range. Is it actually possible to keep my comp level or should I set my target lower?

I have worked in municipal government for almost 17 years. I love what I do as an Inspector, but the environment is toxic, and administration horrible. I have an opportunity to go into the private sector side, as well a second interview for another municipality doing same job. Private sector job will pay 35,000 more but will be 3 hrs away my husband is in law enforcement and can’t leave due to his position. I passed the HR screen, did an interview with who would be my) supervisor and the team lead, and am now doing a coding test.
