My experience the WLB at BAH has been unbeatable, typical day i am able to be signed off and picking up my daughter by at latest 4:30, add to that the ability to flex time over the month and rarely working over 40 hours it is a great situation. Can’t beat the sunny summer afternoons with the kiddo.

Defense

Yeah, our WLB is pretty unbeatable. You tend to have to sacrifice salary to get that though.

I’ve also found that people on the whole are very collegial and friendly. There’s very little competitiveness or backstabbing as well.

Although if you have a high level clearance that can close much of the gap that exists between both worlds.

Public sector is generally more laid-back than commercial.

likefunny

Not in my case..😕

I know there are definitely folks on my admin team that regularly record more than 45 hours per week, but they do so voluntarily whether the realize it or not. I think it’s mainly personality driven- some have the false assumption that they are expected to work non-stop to be recognized as a “top performer” and to earn/keep rank, but in general the firm’s culture prioritizes the WLB of their staff over unrealistic growth targets or project schedules. That generalization falls apart at the SA level and up, as well as those gunning for promotion to SA, but for those not in senior leadership roles, WLB is great.

like

I’ll put it this way - I worked over 40 hours a couple times and I got extra commendation as well as extra time off to use whenever I wanted. Very laid back and that’s even coming from folks on the Principal level.

like

In my experience, most weeks are above 40. Between clients, team admin, and BD, the golden WLB most talk about has never existed for me.

like

I’m sorry that’s your experience. What’s your level? If you are A and below, it sounds like you should be communicating your workload up louder, and if you don’t find a sympathetic ear, switch projects or change teams.

like

No. They’re a publicly traded company and have shareholders to answer to. Have you ever worked in an environment like that?

funny

You don’t have to work your employees to death to operate a profitable business. Many government contracts have a strict 40 hour upper limit of how many hours a single employee can bill within a week. While it’s true most business development activities happen outside the margins of a 40 hour work week, it’s generally senior leadership with lower (although definitely not low enough) billing targets that do all the heavy lifting for those efforts.

like

Does BAH require firm initiatives or BD?

It’s generally SA and up. If you’re an LA trying to be promoted to SA the same is true. As have no expectations, but if you’re trying to get promoted on an accelerated timeline it usually helps to pretend to be interested, so they think you’re a “go getter”

like

Public sector is more laid back in general but Booz Allen was the most conservative and stuck up culture I’ve ever worked for. Heard the same thing from most of my colleagues there and anyone who has worked there. I was in the Homeland Security space, Associate level, worked there for 8 years.

yeah I agree, the culture is not the best here. WLB is great but pay and culture suffer, the firm is so cheap and doesn’t do any employee engagement or culture initiatives like other firms (at least after covid bc I’ve been here 2 years)

like

Same experience....
Am in project that regularly is over 52 hours per week.
God forbid you take a lunch without checking in first..
No segregated sick days (PTO all one bucket)
The stuck up culture is real...

Pay is lacking compared to other consultancies...

Am hoping to exit to another opportunity soon.... Final stages... Can't wait... Here's hoping...

Can't give account for obvious reasons.
Maybe it's team dynamic, but feel like others are impersonal. I ask questions, and sometimes get blowback , even though I mention that I have tried looking at references, Google, etc...
Plus, the work is mind numbingly slow.
Which is welcome after last project, but the politics from the previous project are there .
Just waiting on answers from 2 possibilities, so perhaps won't have to n worry about it too much longer...🙏🙏

I recently lateraled into Big Law. Most of my colleagues are homegrown. My shift did involve a big change in practice area, and there's work that I haven't done before that I now have to do.

But, sometimes I feel stupid here, even for work which I have done previously. It's like I'm unable to understand instructions the first time around. And I have seen my colleagues getting annoyed by that. It's like I've become dumb. In my defence, I could say they're giving half assed instructions.

Hi, what kind of salary should I expect from London consultancies with 1 year experience as an Analyst at Accenture?

I’m working in analytics with some currently in Python and R, and some AWS exposure with the cloud fundamentals cert (which doesn’t mean much I know 😂) and would be looking for a similar data-focussed role.

If anyone knows of any open roles and would be happy to do a referral etc then please also let me know.

Thanks 😊

If so, were you able to negotiate a percentage of the consulting fee? Or was it a bump in salary during the project?
