Is it common practice for a senior associate to be required pay the salary of the junior associate on their team out of their income?

Most f***** up arrangement I’ve ever heard of.

like

No. I have never heard of that. The firm is responsible for salaries.

like

Never heard, but I'm curious. What's the benefit to the senior?

like

So the senior gets all the revenue generated by the junior for clients of the firm and then covers the salary? If that's the case, I hope you are an independent contractor and you can write off expenses through your own firm because the tax implications are going to be huge.

Assuming you mean bonus??

Senior associates make base salary plus bonuses based on fees to the firm. The arrangement would be that senior associate takes on junior associate’s salary before being eligible for any bonus. Junior associate only works on one senior associate’s docket.

That’s a new one for me.

Is this legal? My spouses company just decided to change their comp structure for account managers. It was base + comm, now it’s commission only but nothing changed, OT commission is the same, didn’t get more points, just took away the base pay and said work harder basically. So now they have to worker harder to get $50k they were already making. (Not a decision based on employee performance, they’ve been crushing it. I think the company is just trying to save money they overspent else where)

Hello All,
I am finishing up my second year of practice as a lawyer. I transitioned to plaintiffs pi work from a boutique commercial litigation firm. I like the work and not having to bill. The issue I am having is managing volume. I have about 150 active files some pre-lit and the rest are in litigation. Cases range in value from very small to low six figures. I also take the driver seat for the grunt work on the firms bigger cases which are at or near 7 figure value. I constantly feel (cont.)
