It's not petty at all. There's a reason that "people don't quit jobs, they quit bosses" is repeated so often: it's valid. A bad manager can make even the best job miserable. If yours is doing that to you, I don't blame you at all for wanting out. Although I would caution against leaving without an offer in this job market, because everyone is struggling to find work right now. Maybe see if you can transfer to a different team or something instead.
Agree. The #1 reason people choose to leave a job is because of their manager.
No, people don't leave bad companies they leave bad mangers
Unfortunately that happened to me I work at a group home for 2 and 1/2 years at first we had another manager and then she just disappeared and left no notice no nothing so I thought that's kind of shady then the new manager came in it was okay for a while and still she started hiring new people and they became her favorites and I felt like I became obsolete even though I carried most of the load because I had been there longer but it was no longer appreciated so I handed in my two weeks.
Going through this with a day job as I speak, I gave my manger grace and still was rude to me. She’s a hit or miss, so I’m quitting it to another MT job. Really trying to transition to admin role because of life changes. Had a talk with my fiancé over this and agreed with me. He even told me to document anything she’s done that is questionable, if it’s HR issue. She’s not really but it’s one day “nice,” the other day “cold.” And I’m the provider there with regulars. So idk that’ll be the managers problem, not mine.
Always remember HR works for the employer and they are supposed to keep things confidential but are not mandated to do so. Think hard before consistently going to them for work related communication issues or other stuff unless you feel truly harassed or berated and keep track of all that happens.
I don't feel it is petty. In all honesty this new practicing office manager. She was brought in to "help make things better" ,but I feel she is making things so much worse I have been on maternity leave since December and she is already wanting to know if I will be coming back or not. I told her already the last time I spoke with her when I would be back. just part time. I am a ftm, and I am not gonna miss my child life. I spoke with my husband he said if you want to keep looking for something else and not go back I am fine with that.
I’d give it a waiting period before jumping ship. Valid to want to leave a bad boss, but making choices over feelings is rarely going to have the best outcome for you.
It’s your pockets. At the end of the day if they decide to fire you they will
It’s not petty, your work environment matters. A difficult manager can significantly impact your performance and mental well-being. If the situation isn’t improving and you’ve made reasonable efforts to address it, it’s okay to prioritize yourself and explore other opportunities.
