Absolutely not silly! I went this route, and it was about to fully transition into the interiors department of the architect firm I worked for, but then the owner shut the department down.
You just have to take every opportunity you see to showcase what you can do, proove yourself useful in making design decisions in projects, and if you don't see opportunities for either of these, on breaks at work, sit at your desk, and sketch/draft, so that people walking by, can see you have skills.
I have to be honest - many bookkeepers and admin assistants I interview harbor hopes of working in design. I don't hire these people because I am looking for someone who loves the work they are hired to do. Also, most people are unwilling to take the cut in pay to go from a fairly accomplished admin role to an entry-level design role, which could be $20K cut.
Nope not silly at alll, my first ID job was half
junior designer half, procurement/ office assistant.Gained a lot of valuable experience from both sides of the tile
