Is it true that hiring picks up at the beginning of the year? If your company is in a position to hire, do they plan to wait to post the listing until January? Trying to find some light at the end of the tunnel after being laid off.

I'm in Silicon Valley, and been in the industry for about 15 years now. Fell into the corporate in-house role and been in those ever since. I primarily do marketing/brand design. I'd love to get to AD level, but I think my main issues has been that I rock the boat a lot and don't play the "corporate game well", piss off the wrong people. Does anyone have any advise for how to advance in corporate environement while keeping the integrity of creative alive?

Need advice - I've been talking to a Partner contact at a big-4 firm where I REALLY want to work. She sent my info to the managing partner in my city, but I haven't heard anything for about 3 weeks. Been playing it cool because I know these things can take time, BUT, I just got let go from my current firm. I have til 12/15 to find a new job.

Do I tell her my timeline is now a month, or is telling them I'm getting fired going to tank my chances of getting the job?

I joined Genpact 10 days ago and my Onboarding session is done but after that I didn't get any call from my supervisor or HR for the laptop delivery, shift timings nd all. Need some feedback! So I was forced to move jobs about 6 months ago due to reorg and the new leader opting to bring their existing EA with them, without even meeting me. If stayed at the company but accepted an offer for a job outside of the department I was in. I’ve now been asked by a manager from my old department to apply for a job they’re opening that would be a 2 step promotion. She thought she got my managers permission to approach me (see comments)

So, I just fired my first employee as a manager and I'm heartbroken. He was a great, great person but after 6 months on a PIP he just wasn't cutting it skills-wise. I know he was the provider of the household and his wife didn't have a job since she was raising three young ones. Needless to say, I had to take off because I felt terrible, sick to my stomach. How do you deal with firing guilt? Is that a thing? I can't help but feeling like I did something wrong.

Well I recently told a guy I have been seeing I have HSV-2. We have not yet been physical but it’s been heading that direction. Man I hate this part - waiting to see what his response will be after he researches and talks to his doctor. I’m on daily meds which help reduce transmission risk. Earlier today I was on a video conference call reviewing a Private Label Agreement template with a larger company who wishes to brand label products we develop and manufacture. Have you had to change your start date after accepting an offer and how did it go? I told them I need to give 30 day notice and so I set my start date (incorrectly) assuming the background check and drug screen would take a few days to clear. However, the drug screen is now taking over a week and a half (still not finished, maybe tomorrow). Apparently things are much slower due to staffing issues and labs are backed up. It’s cutting into my 30 day notice significantly. Thoughts?

When someone has a gap (up to 6 months) between a big law job and their first in house application, do you assume they were laid off? Would you advise a candidate to actively share why they took a break, if it wasn’t a lay off?

Those who have returned to a law firm from being in-house - what was your experience like? If you hated a firm the first time, was it better the second time around? I swore I’d never go back, but seeing the newest round of BigLaw raises and salary increases I am genuinely considering it - I’m getting married and planning for kids shortly, and would like to buy a home in our HCOL city, and while I’m not starving on my in-house salary and am fairly frugal, I don’t feel like we have much cushion.

Career dev advice needed. Being offered a promotion (would be reporting to my current skip and managing/growing a team). The role is global subsidiary management/governance. But the work does not appeal to me, I’ve been doing some of it and it’s so much admin and people management. I’m not practicing law at all. Love my current IC role and manager, get to work on strategic transactions and closer to the business. If my goal is head of corp legal one day, should I suck it up and go for it? Thnx!
