MBB won’t help you get into a better business school. Feel free to DM me if you want to chat more (Principal, Kellogg mba sponsored)
At the end of the day, MBAs are comparing consultants to consultants for entry so that they don’t end up with classes that are 80% former consultants . What matters is being able to tell your story and having solid recommendations. Stay where you can get the roles to stand out, and have the relationships to highlight it. Don’t start over and risk getting lost in the shuffle.

Yes - I think MBB will help you get into a better B-school as well
It’s the story you tell. MBB>OW for admissions just keep the pay cut to yourself. For life. The story the world wants to hear is that it was a career progression in every which way.
If you’re trying to optimize for getting into a competitive MBA program then go for it. Couple of reasons why:
1. MBB are filled with top MBA alums. Mich higher chance you will get opportunities to work with these folks and get them to write your LoR increasing your chances of getting into a competitive program. I’m sure OW has its fair share of MBA alums who went to competitive programs but the scale means you’re much more likely to work under a top MBA alum at MBB than at OW
2. It absolutely makes a difference to b school admission teams if a candidate is from MBB vs Tier2. MBB consultants generally are perceived to work on higher impact projects, have access to more global opportunities as a fact and hence more often than not have a better abs more impactful story than I did applying from a tier 2 firm (came to BCG post-MBA).
Also, don’t forget that ~30%+ people in b school are trying to apply to MBB. and the adcoms recognize that they can brag about having MBB consultants on their program.
It really depends. It is quite funny to read people saying that there are more MBBs in MBAs, that is true, but what you really care is % of people that apply to top MBAs in each firm that are successful in their applications. My personal experience is that almost close to 100% of people that have applied to top MBAs at OW have got what they wanted. I’m sure not dissimilar to MBBs, but that’s really what is important.
I personally value more being in a place that I like and enjoy than doing things just because of “brand”. I know people that left OW to BCG and really liked it and some that really hated it, including boomeranging back after just 3-4 months.
Do whatever you enjoy more as from what I read pretty sure you will be successful under both options!
To provide some extra color— I’ve really enjoyed my time with OW and have made some good friends and close connections. I’m a relatively high performer with a great network of people to support me. Is it worth leaving all this behind for a marginal boost in prestige?
We can argue about how flawed the admissions process is but it’s all about perceptions at the end of the day.
And about that paycut, I bet if you stay a couple of years you’ll end up making more at BCG than you would have at OW.
What are you trying to do after the MBA ?
I wouldn’t move if I were in your shoes - the experience could be nice, but not for a pay cut especially knowing you don’t want to stay in consulting post-MBA
