I was from OW and moved to McK. Don’t know much about margins/financials and etc, but resources and infrastructure are on another level. We have huge support from experts, our visual aids team (DTP) has much more capacity, there are literally people available for everything you need….the company maturity is on another level. Culture here is stronger, values are known and people tend to follow. There are way more programs, opportunities and etc. OW does not have a strong culture, depends on the office/team, nor many opportunities for consultants. Personally i am enjoying much more Mck. Friendlier people, nicer culture, more opportunities, and way more industries/themes. If anyone is considering the move, I think it makes sense.
McK I’m sad that was your experience. I’m a woman based in Europe myself and while we - like many firms - have a long way to go, I haven’t found it to be as bad as you describe
Bain is within the realm of possibility, but McKinsey and BCG are probably out of reach in the next decade at least. People forget that there's a greater gap between BCG and Bain than between Bain and OW and put MBB as one monolithic set of 3 equal companies. They are not.
I've been at McK and OW. McK is a fantastic consulting school to start your career at and build an excellent problem solving and consulting toolkit. OW on the other hand is an incredibly rewarding place to be a Partner - both professionally and financially - much more than my friends at McK with similar tenure if you are reasonably successful (which we should all aspire to)
This is very helpful - thanks!

Catch up on what ? Revenue? Margin? Opportunities for partnership? Ranking made by college grads who are fan of Harry Potter ?

Who?
OW is niche. There is no catching up
Definitely dependent on practice, OW Finance & Risk has more top banking work than MBBs

O? Why man?
Moved from OW to BCG, I think the fundamentals are strong at OW. Just that the upward feedback culture is non existent and the type of projects are not strategic enough. Access to partnership opportunities is great at OW but much more rewarding once you get access at BCG
Rewarding in terms of what ways?
Pppppp
Post Covid demand boosted everyone including OW. The company’s leadership perceived that as a permanent tailwind fueled by their ability to deliver extraordinary results. Obviously they were delusional and when reality hit they responded with layoffs, advance etc. They are not even close to MBB and they will never be
Oliver, off topic — but, can I link with you on LinkedIn in ref to your company leadership program?

2023 reported top line $16b, $12b, $8b. OW has to be a lot smaller than MBB
On revenues: Mck/BCG are 4x (also 100 years and 60 years old vs 40 years old), Bain probably 2x. In terms of opportunities takes 7-12 years, I was on the lower end, but now 10-11 is probably more common.
Main difference with others is price point for MBB is same as OW and this does not happen with the other consulting firms. Will take lots of years to get to the same size (if it ever happens), but it is more important to join the ride… I don't think I would ever go to MBB (as Partner you get at least 1-2 calls every year) but there are reasons that for others could be important (brand, size, etc)
PS on the female population stats, do not know which office, I have been based in 3 offices across 2 regions (non US) and cant think of an office with 80-90% male consultant population…
