At Amazon, what is the difference between a Program Manager and Technical Program Manager? It looks like the Technical one gets paid about 25% more but not sure what roles/responsibilities they do differently. Amazon
Also how technical a background does someone need for a Technical Program Manager role?
Hi everyone! Curious if anyone here works for Slack and can shed a little light on the culture and perhaps offer a referral for an associate brand manager position I just saw on LinkedIn. With the Salesforce acquisition are SF employees allowed to refer for Slack roles? Currently a senior analyst with 4 YOE looking to break into a branding role! Thanks in advance.

I think that is going to be a very subjective thing. I will say I think they are very different, both from having worked for Andersen long ago, and from seeing several people leave Deloitte for ACN and either be back or gone in a year.
My own answer would be Deloitte, but if I was hoping to be something like a deep hands on technical architect, my answer might switch to Accenture.
The problem there I think is that all of consulting is hugely YMMV depending on the specific people and projects you encounter. I would definitely NOT say Deloitte’s culture is toxic, I think it’s the best of the firms I have worked for (Andersen, PwC, Deloitte).
That said, in any huge firm, you might encounter someone who you find toxic, and maybe they are (however you define toxic), or maybe you just don’t click with that person. I don’t think the culture encourages people to be toxic, quite the opposite, but Deloitte isn’t perfect and everyone is different.
One defining thing IMO about Deloitte is that they are very explicit about the importance of building your internal network. That’s important everywhere, but Deloitte gave me formal year end feedback my first year that “not enough people know who you are”.
I don’t know if this is in any way typical of ACN, but we once had an experienced hire from ACN join my project, and the Principal took them out for a 1:1 dinner. During their conversation the former ACN person apparently said literally that they weren’t enjoying Deloitte’s culture and preferred ACN because “I don’t like people” and just wanted to do their work (and be left alone I guess?).
Deloitte is very friendly to experienced hires. I was one, and have worked with countless others who have been successful. But that person didn’t last long at Deloitte.
Came from D. Accenture. I'm a techie and it's almost heaven with the amount of smarts here. D has better consulting folks in terms of articulating strategy. When it comes to tech Uncle D is no where close to Accenture for execution and problem solving.
I have a slightly different perspective. I know someone who left D to go to ACN Strategy and absolutely loves it there. I think at the end of the day all companies are the same. From what I hear Accenture Strategy has much better work life balance and is much less cut throat. Their benefits 401k match healthcare etc. is better than D and pay (base) is better. Bonus is similar to D maybe a bit worse but that’s because Strategy is the smallest group there. Early on (first 5 years) MD pay is better than D partner compensation.
Speaking as someone who recently went through undergraduate recruitment and had offers from both, I 100% stand by my decision to join Accenture for the people. Can't speak for upper levels, however. I have heard Accenture is very profit driven ad the above mentioned.
I came to D from ACN years ago and I’d also say Deloitte is better. I know a ton of people at Deloitte that came from ACN but only know two people that went to Accenture and they both left within two years. I worked with great people at Accenture so it’s not the colleagues, but probably having to do with being a public firm beholden to stockholders and other elements of their company culture.
Deloitte is definitely better culture wise. Bring privately held has huge advantages over being in a firm that is driven by quarterly earnings. Makes it much easier when you’re carrying a sales quota. The culture also encourages collaboration- you cannot win by yourself. We can also be very nimble and adjust quickly without having to go through tons of red tape. Once you have Partner support all other red tape clears quickly. I came in as an experienced hire SM having worked at ACN and IBM
I think for lower levels Accenture may provide the best training grounds but Sr con/mgr up it seems to be better with Deloitte including overall benefits and raises
I did undergrad recruitment and also got offers from both. Overall experience with my informational interviews and job interviews was that Deloitte has a better recruiting system and the people there seemed way more passionate. Also heard its more fun lol.
