Because there was TALK about diversity for all those groups in the advertising industry but zero action until BLM. The Black community, especially in the ad world, coalesced strongly in the wake of it.

I think in America, we’ve historically had inequality issues amongst Black people. So I think by American standards, we tend to look there first. Add that to the fact that we try to sell products to Black (and Latino) people, or use their cultures to sell products to White people, yet we don’t really see them represented in our agencies. So I think it tends to hit you over the head faster than other cultures.

New York City, arguably the most diverse city in the country, is 0.4% Native American, 1.9% Arab-American, 14% Asian, 24% Black and 29% Hispanic/Latino. Look at this link which has diversity stats of 26 agencies: https://digiday.com/marketing/long-road-ahead-heres-a-look-at-the-agency-diversity-data-released-so-far/ THIS is why Black people and Latinos get more attention.

The push for diversity came directly out of the BLM movement. Depends on the context of the convo at your agency, but diversity def applies to all.

As far as preferred gender pronouns go, I’m all about choosing he, she, xe, ze, whatever you want to describe yourself as - but can we please rethink using “they” and “their” to describe a single person? It gets confusing ya’ll. There’s zero judgement here, just grammatically speaking it introduces so much ambiguity and misunderstanding into the English language. That is all. Feel free to clap back if you think I’m out of line or misunderstanding something - always here to learn

To all my friends and colleagues supporting the D&I cause, I apologize for the rant but please know that this is important to me: We are Latinos, not Latinx. It’s not a description of gender, it’s a construct of “our” language to describe the plural in the masculine form. Spanish just be like that, as does French, Italian, and German (and others). Stop appropriating my language and adding your colonial English grammar rules to it. Please. Pretty please. With a great big cherry on top.

Quick poll: List your gender & a quick sentence on whether you like to work for male or female bosses (ok to say no preference). Me personally - Male - I’ve had better experiences working with male managers. I’ve noticed that more female managers feel disadvantaged and try extra hard to prove themselves (incredulous this happens in 2020), but in the process tend to be more demanding and stressful to work with. This is not intended to offend anyone. Just genuinely looking to learn and grow.

Why do we celebrate diversity and not just people? Celebrating diversity is offensive to 'diverse’ people as they don’t like to be treated as corporate trophies and is discriminatory against white men

Fiancée (woman) wants to keep her hyphenated name after her previous divorce because she likes it better and wants to keep using it for her career/personal brand. Fiancé (man) thinks keeping it hyphenated is disrespectful to him, does not see how shortening a hyphenated name detracts from personal branding, would prefer she only use her maiden name going forward, and does not want her to adopt own last name once married. Who do you side with?

My company is forcing me to disclose my gender pronouns in my email signature. I’m a straight male? I 100% support the LGBTQ community but I feel like this mandate is encroaching. I don’t feel empowered per the company’s announcement - I feel like I’m being indoctrinated.
